The Hollister city council has authorized the establishment of a volunteer-unit of parking enforcers. Hollister police officers will train members of the “volunteers in policing” team to write citations for violations of parking in handicap spaces. 2-volunteers will be trained to start the program. the program was requested by interim Hollister police chief david westrick. Westrick issued a report to city council members that said complaints about such violations rarely get responses, due to budget cuts at the police department. “Volunteers in policing” members are expected to conduct parking enforcement on a weekly basis, beginning this summer.
