THE MONTEREY COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT INTENDS TO ISSUE A PERMIT FOR REMOVAL OF 7 OF NEARLY 200 “SCENIC AND HISTORIC” WALNUT TREES, THAT LINE BOTH SIDES OF SPRECKLES BOULEVARD. TANIMURA AND ANTLE, THE PRODUCE COMPANY THAT OWNS THE PROPERTY, REMOVED 2 TREES BEFORE CONTACTING THE COUNTY, CLAIMING THAT THOSE 2 TREES WERE IN VERY POOR AND DANGEROUS CONDITION.
OVER 300 RESIDENTS SIGNED A PETITION IN MARCH CALLING UPON TANIMURA AND ANTLE TO “Do what’s right and cut only the trees that need to be cut”, AND REPLACE THE BLACK WALNUT TREES WITH MATURE TREES, NOT SAPLINGS.
