Caltrans annou nced today (Monday) that Highway 1 at Rat Creek in Monterey County will now reopen this Friday.
The annou ncement means that a full reopening will take place a week sooner than previously announced.
Construction crews will continue to work in the area even after the road opens as drainage work and safety enhancements will make this stretch of highway resilient against extreme weather conditions.
This will allow full travel across the coastal highway that has been washed out after a debris flow in January.
The official reopening of Highway 1 at Rat Creek is this Friday, April 23 at Noon.
