Highway 17 is open today following a horrendous commute yesterday evening.
One motorist was killed and the treacherous mountain highway was closed in both directions during the evening commute.
It started in the northbound direction around 2:30 when a driver lost control and the car overturned… that motorist suffered major injuries.
About an hour later, in the southbound direction… a large tree fell south of summit road hitting and killing a driver traveling northbound. That vehicle lost control and hit several other cars causing multiple injuries. Cal-trans was able to clear the tree in the southbound direction but northbound remained closed until after 7 last night.
