THE NEW SOUND WALL ALONG THE HIGHWAY 1 WIDENING PROJECT BETWEEN SOQUEL AVENUEAND MORRISSEY BOULEVARD IN SANTA CRUZ WAS GRAFFITI’D AGAIN RECENTLY. SINCE FEBRUARY 2012, THE PROJECT HAS BEEN TAGGED AT LEAST HALF A DOZEN TIMES. THE GRAFFITI HAS RANGED FROM SMALL TAGS TO THIS MOST RECENT EVENT WHICH IS 75-FEET LONG, SPANS THREE WALLS AND IS MULTI-COLORED. AS A DETERRENT, THE LANDSCAPING PLAN INCLUDES PLANTING THICK SHRUBBERY ALONG THE SOUND WALL. THE SANTA CRUZ REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CLEAN-UP UNTIL THE PROJECT IS COMPLETE WHEN CALTRANS WILL TAKE OVER RESPONSIBILITY. THE COMMISSION PLANS TO COLLABORATE WITH C-H-P AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TO TRY TO CATCH THE VANDALS IN THE ACT.
