highways-1 and 17 were closed for over an hour monday, (during rush hour), after a fatal accident occurred. the wreck happened just after 3 p.m., when a driver entered highway-17 the wrong way, (from ocean street). the driver was heading north in the southbound lanes, when he smashed head-on into another vehicle. the female driver of that other vehicle suffered fatal injuries, and was declared dead at the scene. the wrong way driver, (a soquel resident), did not reportedly suffer any injuries in the accident. his s.u.v burst into flames, which caused c-h-p to close all lanes in the area. Traffic began to move slowly, after 5 p.m.
