A jury has convicted 46 year-old James Henderson of 2 counts of First Degree Murder. The same jury now needs to decide if he was sane (5 years ago) when he ran over his adopted father, and then beat his adoptive mother to death in their Aptos home. Because Henderson pleaded Not Guilty and Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity, there will be a 3rd phase to his trial in which the jury will need to decide what his level of sanity was at the time he killed his adoptive parents. Their decision will determine if Henderson faces life in prison, or if he is committed to the california department of state hospitals (or another court-ordered placement).
