A head on collision between two pickup trucks in Larkin Valley yesterday afternoon that left one man in serious condition. The accident occurred near Freedom Boulevard and Valencia Road around 5pm, when a man fell asleep while driving. The 29-year-old Aptos resident crossed over the double yellow lines in his Chevy truck and slammed head on into a 46-year-old Watsonville man who was driving a Toyota truck with his 16-year-old son. The Chevy driver had only minor injuries, but the Toyota driver had to be extricated from his vehicle by firefighters. The Toyota driver was flown to San Jose Regional Medical center with major injuries. His son was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital. Freedom Boulevard was closed in both directions until 6:20pm. Intoxication was not found to be a factor in the crash and all victims were wearing seatbelts.
