A founding faculty member of Cowell College at U.C.S.C. has died. 96 year-old Harry Berger Junior helped get U.C.S.C.’s English Department off the ground back in the mid-1960s. Although he officially “retired” from the university in 1994 (at the age of 70), he kept teaching and lecturing until he was in his 90s….winning numerous awards and honors with his teaching style and writings. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, siblings, and his 2 sons; and is survived by his 2nd wife, daughter s and his grandson. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
