A big box store, and a coffee company, have been ordered to pay half a million dollars in civil penalties. That’s because a Superior Court Judge determined that Costco, and the owners of San Francisco Bay Gourmet Coffee, did not meet state compostability requirements, because they used plastic coffee pods (that were incorrectly labeled biodegradable and compostable).
