GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN IS EXPECTED TO SIGN A MEASURE TODAY THAT IS DESIGNED TO REGULATE GROUNDWATER PUMPING. LOCAL WATER AGENCIES WOULD BE REQUIRED TO ONLY USE AS MUCH GROUNDWATER AS NATURALLY REPLENISHES ITSELF. TO DO THAT THOSE AGENCIES WOULD BE REQUIRED TO REGULARLY MEASURE WATER TABLES.
Agencies in the most over-pumped basins will be required to submit plans to the state by January 2020.
