Ground was broken for a new inclusive playground, called LEO’s Haven at Chanticleer Park, over the weekend. The playground is designed to serve disabled children, in some cases offering them a first-ever playground experience in their lives.
The founders of the project, Tricia and Bob Potts of Santa Cruz County, have three children, one of whom is wheelchair-bound.
It’s estimated that about 10 percent of children have disabilities that make it difficult or impossible for them to use traditional playgrounds.
Supporters have raised more than $2-million-dollars to develop the special needs playground. The groundbreaking was on Saturday.
