Greenway, the anti-rail transportation activist group, yesterday presented 10,000 petition signatures to the Santa Cruz Regional Transportation Commission. Greenway opposes the rail component of a billion-dollar transportation plan that could be voted upon by the Transportation Commission on January 17th.
The plan covers car, trail, bike and pedestrian travel. A key issue is what happens to 32-miles of railroad right-of-way that runs between Davenport and Watsonville. Greenway says it should be used only as a trail with no railroad use. The RTC proposal includes passenger and freight rail service.
