The city of Greenfield swore in personnel for its new fire department on Monday. The Monterey County city is transitioning its fire protection district into a fire department. The difference is where the funding comes from. Money for the fire district comes mostly from property taxes. The new fire department will be funded partly by a parcel tax passed in May and partly by the city’s general fund. Response times are not expected to change as the station will remain in the same place.
