A 500-THOUSAND DOLLAR STATE GRANT HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED FOR A PROGRAM TO HELP CALIFORNIA MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL GUARD FIND JOBS. THE GRANT WILL BE USED TO FUND A PILOT PROGRAM, CALLED “WORK FOR WARRIORS.” THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO MATCH THE WORK SKILLS AMONG NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS WITH HIRING NEEDS OF EMPLOYERS. THE GOAL IS TO REDUCE UNDER-EMPLOYMENT AND UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG CALIFORNIA GUARDS MEMBERS BY 25-PERCENT WITHIN A YEAR. IN THE LONG-TERM, OFFICIALS HOPE THE PROGRAM WILL REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG GUARDS MEMBERS TO 5-PERCENT OR BELOW.
