Plans to build the first Central Coast Veteran’s Cemetery is one step closer after a newly signed bill by Governor Jerry Brown this week. The bill, authored by State Senator Bill Monning, changed the status of the money for the Fort Ord Veteran’s Cemetery from a loan to an allocation. The one-million dollar allotment comes after a state deadline to raise 2.6-million dollars by October 15th or risk losing a secured federal grant. Meanwhile, two large funding sources for the cemetery have already been approved, one for $450,000 from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and another for $150,000 from The Cannery Row Company.
