The Monterey City Council has voted to establish a donation account for the Golden State Theatre before moving forward with plans to purchase it. A report presented to Council members last night required the city spend $20,000 for a “Facility Condition Assessment” of the Theatre. The Council did not vote on the issue, they instead voted on a separate account to accept donations for the Golden State Theater due diligence costs. The first fund raising event is set for February 1st in the Theater from 5-to-10 p.m. The Alvarado Street property is valued at 5-million dollars.
