A man, who stole a gold coin collection from an elderly Santa Cruz couple, has been convicted of first degree burglary, elder financial abuse, and embezzlement. Donald Scott Rainey, and his partner promised the Santa Cruz couple they would get the coins certified, and then sold for “the best price possible”…..but what the 2 criminals actually did was keep the coins (and proceeds) for themselves. Various elderly numismatists around the country have reported that Rainey (and his cohort) absconded with their collections too.
