The Gilroy police department will host a gun buyback day next month. On Dec. 14th, people can anonymously turn in unwanted guns in exchange for cash.
People will receive $100 for handguns, rifles and shotguns and $200 for assault weapons. There is a limit of five weapons per person and they must all be functional.
$50,000 is available for the buyback program, which is cosponsored by Morgan Hill PD and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office.
Any firearms found to have been stolen will be returned to their former legal owners. All other runs will be destroyed.
The event will be held on Saturday, December 14th from 9 AM until 2PM at the City of Gilroy Corporation Yard, 613 Old Gilroy Street, in Gilroy.
