Two men from Hollister were killed in a solo car crash near Gilroy early Friday morning. Authorities say that the crash happened at about 1:30 a.m. on southbound lanes of Highway 101, near Highway 129. The driver of a VW Jetta, 25-year-old Anthony Marta Mendoza was speeding when he went off the roadway and rolled several times. His two passengers, 23-year-old Michael Solorio and 25-year-old Justin Lopez, were pronounced dead at the scene. Mendoza was transported to a San Jose trauma center with major injuries. Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the incident, which remains under investigation.
