Travelers who are thinking about their 2020 holiday flights such as Thanksgiving or travel plans need to be prepared for the change of identification requirements.
Starting October 1 2020, or about 11 months from now, those who utilize airplane travel will need to have a passport or REAL ID. As many travelers have taken the liberty of acquiring a REAL ID, the California Department of Motor Vehicles encourages booking an appointment in order to avoid the long lines, and to remember bringing the required documents to verify ID.
Those documents are:
- Current passport
- Birth Certificate
- Social Security Number or W-2 Form with entire SSN
- Two hard copy documents proving California Residency such as utility bills
