A 47 year-old salinas man has been sentenced to spend 35 years-to-life in prison for fatally stabbing his girlfriend. That after Edward Gardner pleaded guilty in October to stabbing 46 year-old postal worker Jean Franklin multiple times (in the head and body) at her apartment in Vintage Manor on California Street. Along with not being eligible for parole until the year 2045, Gardner has been ordered to pay restitution to Franklin’s family.
