A GRANT HAS BEEN AWARDED TO THE CITY OF WATSONVILLE TO LAUNCH A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO REDUCE GANG VIOLENCE. THE OVER 350-THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT COMES FROM THE CALIFORNIA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY, AND IS TO FOCUS ON FIGHTING GANG CRIME IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS SURROUNDING MARINOVICH PARK. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM, CALLED “CONTIGO”, IS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR YOUTH THROUGH TUTORING, COUNSELING, AND OTHER SERVICES.
THE PROGRAM WILL BE RUN JOINTLY BY THE CITY OF WATSONVILLE PARKS AND COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND PAJARO VALLEY PREVENTION AND STUDENT ASSISTANCE.
