A known Salinas gang member was sentenced to nearly 10-years in prison today for conducting a 4 county car-theft ring. 28-year old Rene Rubio, a Sureno gang member, was sentenced to 18 years and 8 months in jail for orchestrating a ring that committed vehicle thefts in Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties. Rubio was arrested after undercover authorities conducted “Operation Mone-Train” which infiltrated the sureno criminal street gang by buying stolen vehicles and illegal drugs from Rubio’s auto theft ring.
