A Gilroy Unified School District bus driver has received 2 awards. Maria Del Carmen Collins received the Southern Regional School Bus Driver-Of-The-Year award from the California Highway Patrol in part because of her ability to stay calm and provide care an comfort, after another vehicle hit her bus (while she had more than 40 students on board) about a year ago. Collins also received a Medal Of Distinction from the Deputy Commissioner.
