Cal-Fire has released a list of the state’s 35 most critical fuel-reduction projects, and several of those are in and around Aptos, Santa Cruz, Big Sur, Los Gatos, and Woodside. Cal-Fire says that some of the work has already begun, but much more still needs to be done. That work includes removing dead trees, clearing vegetation, digging out fuel breaks, and clearing defensible space around structures….as well as improving routes for people (to be able to flee a community), and also for firefighters (to be able to access those same communities).
