SAYING HE DOESN’T WANT TO “LEAVE KIDS HANGING”, A C.S.U.M.B. STUDENT (WHO STARTED A PROGRAM AS A COLLEGE REQUIREMENT) HAS DECIDED TO KEEP IT GOING FOR AS LONG AS HE CAN. 29 YEAR-OLD RODRIGO REYES CHOSE TO HOLD A 2-HOUR A WEEK FREE SOCCER CAMP IN EAST SALINAS AS PART OF HIS SERVICE-LEARNING PROJECT. REYES, AND HIS COUSIN DAVID ALEJANDRE, WORK THE KIDS THROUGH WARM-UPS, AND DEFENSIVE DRILLS, BEFORE ENDING THE DAY WITH A SCRIMMAGE.
INITIALLY ONLY A HANDFUL OF NEIGHBORHOOD KINDS SHOWED UP, BUT THAT HAS INCREASED TO ABOUT 20 CHILDREN TAKING PART EACH WEEK.
