On March 16, 2020 the Santa Cruz County Public Health Officer ordered all non-essential businesses in the county to close or significantly reduce operations. To mitigate the risk of criminal activity to closed businesses, the Sheriff’s Office has increased patrols and security checks around vacant businesses.
The Sheriff’s Office will continue to identify businesses that are at an increased risk and coordinate with those business owners or managers to arrange a free business inspection. We will inspect the exterior and interior of the business. At the end of each inspection, a customized Safety Checklist with considerations for additional safety precautions will be given to the owner making them aware of any threats to security.
