AN ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP HAS STARTED FEDERAL LITIGATION ALLEGING THAT THE OIL AND GAS EXPLORATION PROCESS USED IN MONTEREY COUNTY CALLED “FRACKING” THREATENS ENDANGERED SPECIES INCLUDING THE CALIFORNIA CONDOR. A FORMAL INTENT TO SUE WAS FILED AGAINST THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT ON WEDNESDAY, AND THE TUCSON BASED GROUP SAYS THE PROCESS KNOWN AS FRACKING WOULD DAMAGE WILDLIFE HABITAT UNDER THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT. THE PROCESS INJECTS HIGH-PRESSURE FLUIDS UNDER GROUND, TO BREAK ROCK, AND FREE PETROLEUM DEPOSITS.
