A prescribed burn got underway this morning in Monterey County at the Former Fort Ord. The burn, which started at 10:20 a.m., is expected to encompass 327 acres and take a few hours to finish. Officials say the prescribed burn allows vegetation to be cleared so that workers are able to safely remove unexploded munitions and explosives left over from when Fort Ord was an Army training center. As a precaution, South Boundary and Rancho Saucito Roads are expected to be closed during the burn.
