A controlled burn, took place today at Fort Ord in an effort to cut vegetation back and reduce the risk of wildfire. The prescribed burn caused smoke that was able to be seen from the Salinas Valley and the Monterey Peninsula this morning. The burn operations are being conducted by the Presidio of Monterey Fire Department and have been coordinated with the Monterey Bay unified Air Pollution Control District. Fire Department officials are expected to monitor the area after burn operations were completed.
