The former leader of the Santa Cruz chapter of the Mexican street gang MS-13 has pled guilty to charges related to murder.
US prosecutors said Tuesday that 29-year-old Alexander Martinez-Flores was the top-ranking member of the local MS-13 from February to August 2014 and was a member from at least January 2013 to February 2017. He pled guilty to using a firearm to cause murder, conspiracy to commit murder and extortion and racketeering conspiracy.
Martinez-Flores is facing 30 years in prison and five years of supervised release.
Nine other former Santa Cruz MS-13-affiliated members have also pled guilty for their crimes.
