For 47% Gonzales HS Graduation Becomes an Issue 02-02-21 22:54 DC

Some Gonzales High School seniors are at risk of not graduating on-time this June.

School officials say nearly half of the students are not on track to graduate. That is about 108 students out of 228 total. In the fall semester 423 D’s and 1080 F’s were awarded to students as a final grade.

Superintendent Yvette M. Irving told the recent board meeting that “The emphasis once again Ds and Fs in the core areas Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies, need to be repeated by a student to get a passing grade” necessary for college.

The school has been “disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.” Officials there are looking for ways to help students achieve more and graduate this summer or in the fall.
