NATIONWIDE – The U-S-D-A is stressing the importance of food safety this holiday season. As such they have announced several resources they encourage people to take advantage of. There’s a meat and poultry hotline at:
1-888-mphotline, that’s 1-888-674-6854
On thanksgiving day itself people will be available from 0500 – 11 a-m
Another resource is: AskKaren.gov where there will be a food safety expert from 7 a.m. Until 1 p-m pacific time Monday through Friday. Some other tips are: don’t wash the turkey, frozen turkey’s take 24 hours for every 5 pounds of weight to thaw, and are best thawed in the refrigerator, a cold water bath or in the microwave, use a meat thermometer, do not store food outside (even if it’s cold outside), properly refrigerated leftovers should be good for up to 4 days.
