Officials with the federal emergency management agency have rejected governor jerry brown’s request for funding to cover damage incurred by a series of march storms. The governor had appealed fema’s initial rejection, after the agency said the storms did not qualify as a “single emergency event.” Officials responded to the appeal by denying it, in a statement yesterday, that said that the damage was not severe enough that local governments could not handle it. Santa cruz county incurred about 19-million dollars worth of damage.
