a watsonville woman saved a cat, that after witnessing several young men hang the animal. the woman called the santa cruz county animal shelter, after rescuing the cat, which had been hung by the neck with a shoelace from a branch about 4 feet off the ground. according to authorities the incident is felony animal cruelty PUNISHABLE by a 20 thousand dollar fine and imprisonment. the cat will be ELIGIBLE for adoption on monday if no owner comes forward.
