a couple of federal grants are expected to fund the acquisition of new equipment for the Watsonville and santa cruz police departments. Santa cruz received just-over 85-thousand dollars, while Watsonville received nearly 80-thousand. The santa cruz police department plans to use the money to purchase new computer software, digital fingerprinting devices, thermal-imaging devices, and 2-mobile, electronic-traffic signs. The Watsonville police department is expected to use most of the money to update their radio system. The grants are coming from the department of homeland security.
