Up to 48 million dollars of Federal Funding, to repair storm damage to roads in Santa Cruz County, is now at risk. That’s because the county has just 2 years to authorize repair projects for the many roads that were damaged in the winter of 2016-2017. Local public works officials say that it can take more than 2 years to complete project-authorizations, and that although it used to be easy to get the necessary extensions, that’s not true anymore. The county has filed extension requests for 85 repair projects….and are waiting to hear about their status from the Federal Highway Administration.
