February 17, 2016: Dick Bruhn Fire Update

(19:15) SALINAS – Firefighters were finally allowed inside the old Dick Bruhn building in Salinas toda,y after the main core of the building was found to be stable. They were then able to put out the hot spots that had still been burning. After doing that, cadaver dogs were taken through the building to see if there were any fire victims inside the historic structure. No victims were found. Late this afternoon the city re-opened the portions of Alisal and Main Streets that had been closed since firefighters responded to reports of the blaze on Saturday.
Previous story – (10/16/16 – 15:55 UPDATE) SALINAS – Federal Arson Investigators are working with Salinas Fire Investigators to determine the cause of Saturday’s 5-alarm fire in the historic Dick Bruhn store in Oldtown Salinas. The fire is still smoldering, and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad used their robot to find where the hot spots still are. Crews are still trying to restore power to some nearby businesses, including the Civic Center….and re-open the roadway (if the structure is found to be stable).
