The identity has been released of a Sand City man who died over the weekend after his car allegedly lost control and drove off Highway 101 north of Morgan Hill. Police say 36-year old Lanny Francisco Duarte was found dead at the scene early Sunday morning near Coyote Creek Bridge. Officers believe Duarte drove his 2004 Mercedes off the road, striking the center median before the vehicle went airborne crashing into the creek bed below. The collision was discovered at about 8:30 a.m. when walkers below the highway saw the wreck. The CHP is investigating whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
