At a recent Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau virtual meeting, the Farmer of the Year Award was issued to several recipients compared to prior years.
Arnett Young, president of the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau tells KSCO how many were awarded, and why.
“This year when the board was discussing farmer of the year, one of the board members said ‘really, it’s all Santa Cruz County growers and farm employees because this year was such a challenging year, and yet we did it. We continued to operate. We continued to feed the local community, [and] the state. It was a really huge task in working together, and we did it. No one individual did anything by themselves, we all did it together”, Young stated.
The decision to award all farmers and farmworkers was made during the Farm Bureau’s 103rd annual virtual meeting.
