Salinas police arrested a man on Wednesday, for trying to fraudulently solicit donations around the city. officers arrested julio sanchez at 10:30 a.m., on the 13-thousand block of jackson street. he is accused of collecting donations for the alisal eagles youth football team, and cashing the checks for himself (at a local store). Police were initially contacted in may, after a victim discovered that his donation had not been received by the football team. Sanchez is facing several possible charges, including embezzlement, burglary, and probation violation. Salinas police believe other victims were scammed by the 52-year-old, who called himself “coach sanchez,” when soliciting donations. Anyone who was contacted by him, is encouraged to contact the salinas police department’s non-emergency number.
