A former Greenfield-area middle school teacher has avoided prison for having sex with a minor. The attorney for Jerry Mare struck a plea deal under which Mare pleaded no-contest to two sex charges.
Mares was a Vista Verde Middle School teacher when he was arrested on charges of having sex with a 16-year-old girl in the back of his car back in 2018.
Mares will receive felony probation and a suspended prison sentence. He will be sentenced next month.
