A PORTION OF MAIN STREET, IN THE OLDTOWN AREA OF SALINAS, WAS SHUT DOWN FOR A WHILE THIS MORNING, AFTER AN AIR-CONDITIONING UNIT ON THE ROOF OF A BUILDING MALFUNCTIONED. WITNESSES REPORTED SEEING SMOKE ON THE 2ND FLOOR OF A BUILDING ON THE 300 BLOCK OF MAIN STREET, NEAR SAN LUIS STREET. AS A RESULT, THE SALINAS SPORTS TAVERN (WHICH USED TO BE CALLED THE PENNY FARTHING) WAS EVACUATED.
