The federally-funded law enforcement crackdown known as “Avoid the 18” concluded last night, in Monterey county. The grant program allows extra enforcement in different locations around the state and country. In Monterey county, the 18-day-long campaign netted 141-d.u.i. arrests. That marks an increase of 12-percent from the same period last year. No d.u.i. deaths were reported during the enforcement period. Officers will be mobilized again, on Halloween weekend, and once more, for a 20-day period in December.
