THE ENCINAL FIRE, IN THE HILLS SOUTH OF SALINAS AND EAST OF CHUALAR WAS STILL BURNING IN A 400 ACRE AREA 24 HOURS AFTER WHAT STARTED AS A 35 ACRE CONTROLLED BURN TURNED INTO A WILDFIRE. A HELICOPTER, 2 AIR TANKERS AND ABOUT 200 FIREFIGHTERS WERE CALLED INTO BATTLE THE BLAZE WHICH WAS DESCRIBED AS 50 PERCENT CONTAINED AT ABOUT 7 P-M THURSDAY NIGHT.
