Despite a plea from the owner of “central home supply” in Santa Cruz to save his business from being dramatically altered by a highway widening project… the city council voted to pull rank and approve eminent domain.
The city will pay 1.7 million dollars for two parcels owned by the Santee family at the corner of highway nine and highway one in downtown Santa Cruz. Officials will also pay 300-thousand dollars to relocate residents in a home on River Street and Highway one.
The widening project at highways 9 and one has been in consideration for 15 years.
