FUNDING HAS BEEN SECURED TO PUT MORE CHARGING STATIONS (FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES) IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY. CURRENTLY THERE ARE SEVERAL FREE CHARGING STATIONS IN SANTA CRUZ CITY GARAGES. THE MONTEREY BAY ELECTRIC ALLIANCE GOT THE FUNDING FROM THE MONTEREY BAY UNIFIED POLLUTION CONTROL DISTRICT.
AT THIS POINT THE AVERAGE NEIGHBORHOOD ELECTRIC VEHICLE GETS ABOUT 25-30 MILES ON A CHARGE. THE NEW STATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO OFFER HIGHER VOLTAGE, AND ALLOW ELECTRIC CAR OWNERS (ESPECIALLY THOSE OF THE NEW CHEVY VOLT AND NISSAN LEAF) A GREATER RUNNING RANGE.
