THE COMMERCIAL DUNGENESS CRAB SEASON IS OFF TO A SLOW START IN SANTA CRUZ. THE SEASON, WHICH OPENED ON FRIDAY, WAS HAMPERED BY THE WEATHER; WINDS OF UP TO 30 KNOTS PRODUCED LARGE WAVES MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR FISHERMEN. SOURCES SAY THAT A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF BOATS CHOSE TO REMAIN IN THE HARBOR UNTIL BETTER WEATHER. HOWEVER BY NOON SATURDAY THERE WAS FRESH CRAB IN THE HARBOR SELLING AT 6.25 A POUND.
