A LAW-ENFORCEMENT EFFORT IN MONTEREY COUNTY RESULTED IN 47-D.U.I.-ARRESTS OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. OFFICIALS REPORT THAT, THAT IS A SLIGHT INCREASE, FROM LAST YEAR’S 45-ARRESTS. THE 4-DAY CRACKDOWN WAS PART OF A COORDINATED CAMPAIGN CALLED “AVOID THE-18,” WHICH IS FUNDED WITH STATE AND FEDERAL GRANTS. AUTHORITIES PLAN TO ACTIVATE THE PROGRAM AGAIN ON INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND.
